UKTI Market Visit to China & Hong Kong
Sally Bennett, Director of the International Office of EThames Graduate School recently participated in a United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) market visit to southern China and Hong Kong. The mission, part-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), was organised by GLE oneLondon with support from UK Trade and Investment and in partnership with Pathway Caribbean.
The mission took place between the 9th and 15th of May 2010 and was led by Thomas Chan (in his role as Mayor of the London Borough of Redbridge). The 14 member Mission was also accompanied by Juergen Bauer, Trade Mission Manager of GLE and Robert Hurley, International Trade Adviser, UKTI.
Delegates attending the mission met with officials from the Guangzhou Yuexiu Foreign Affairs Office, the Mayor of Yuexiu District, the Dongguan Foreign Affairs Bureau and representatives from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Trade seminars were arranged in both cities. giving delegates the opportunity to have one-to-one meetings with potential business partners. Delegates also attended a briefing session given by members of the British Chamber of Commerce in Guangzhou.
The city of Dongguan, in Guangdong Province is one of the world's fastest growing cities. Since the economic reforms of 1979 the population of Dongguan has grown from 1 million to more than 6.5 million. Guangzhou lies north of Dongguan and is the capital city of Guangdong Province. It is the most highly populated city in the province with a population of 10.15 million.
